Hypervigilance II (Iris) (2020)
Oil on Canvas 1820mm x 1220mm
£3,000
To paint these large images, I generally make a few small sketches with notes about colour choice and take a series of photographs. (It’s not practical to paint at this large scale from life).
I’ve never really considered them ‘portraits’ in the classic sense, as always, they tend to represent messages or thoughts on a particular subject. The actual ‘look’ often changes as I add embellishments during the making of the piece.
I made this work in tandem with the other ‘Hypervigilance’ works. Iris is a friend and a model at my life drawing class. She is stunning and I really wanted to make her portrait.
Two ‘Hypervigilance’ works were first shown at my Show ‘Sometimes its Art, Sometimes its a Weapon’.
