The Waiting Room (2017)
Oil on Canvas 1200mm x 900mm
£560
Back in my band days I wrote a song called ‘Waiting Room’ about life being a kind of precursor to something.. else.
The song led me to make the painting which seems to be more about persecution and suffering.
I made this back in 2017 and it was one of those works that I nearly lost and scrapped half way through. I wasn’t really sure why I was making it I guess. It was about this time that I re-watched Kathryn Bigelow’s ‘Zero Dark Thirty’ and so I finished the work anyway. If you’ve seen the movie you’ll get this I think? The work is subjectively ‘harsh’ and I hated it at the time, but now there’s bits (from a painting perspective) that I’m quite pleased with.
It's interesting to paint the face with the head tilted back like this.
